"YOU WANT ME TO DO WHAT? That someone else!" How many times have you heard that (or maybe even said yourself)? To succeed as a great leader sometimes you have to think small.
Each task, menial or mundane is a golden opportunity for you to gain recognition and respect to be offset exceeded.
When you feel that is too important to help others less desirable that the necessary task, you are only fooling yourself. You will never be too important to be exempted from doing something menial to do. Therefore, accept and do it with grace. The advantage is that is what helps build character and make that a stronger leader.
My father used to say: "Son, no matter what you do in life if they are important men in the military or mop the floor, if you die it must be able to say that was his best. "
As a result, my attitude became "You want me to preside the meeting, or the creation of chairs for the meeting? "I invite you to take that attitude and adapt it to their daily lives. Some call it" servant leadership. "It worked for me and for you.
This does not matter the size of the task. That is not relevant. The question is, "Do you need to do?" Are you you the capacity to do so? If so, Get Busy. We would all like prestige tasks and jobs, but life is not always cooperative in this way.
In a recent episode of "The Apprentice," one of the candidates refused to carry out a task which he thought was beneath her. His team lost and she was fired because of that attitude. When you are in a situation like that, step up and accept the challenge of grace (remember the advice of my father).
People are looking at, up and down the line and everyone is able to enhance their careers. But I do not for that reason. Do it because it is right. Tasks small, seemingly insignificant, are opportunities to show the size of your character.
The head of your servant heart is revealed in small acts, done without fanfare or expectation that others generally do not believe that or not do. Rick Warren, in his book "The Purpose Driven Life" says, "great opportunities often disguise themselves in small tasks. The little things in life determine the big things. "
May you have many small tasks that lead to great success.
