Fragile Things is a collection of short stories and poems by the author, winner of multiple awards, Neil Gaiman. Originally, it was to give a brief overview of each piece of collection. However, as there are twenty seven stories and poems in total, I will limit my discussion to what I consider the highlights of this collection, as well as some general observations.
Introducing the book is written by Gaiman himself, and explains the origin of most of the work. All but one of the stories have seen the light of day and in a variety of different places, from other collections to be published online or for programs of visits by Tori Amos.

The never-seen-before piece is titled "How to talk to girls at parties and is a typical offering surreal. The narrator recalls an incident from his youth, encapsulation the awkwardness of young men trying to talk to young women, but with the distinction of Gaiman, another twist.

A number of the stories in this book was commissioned from various sources, which gives a rich range of content. The story of "Goliath" was written for the website associated with the movie 'The Matrix'. The story is inspired by some of the concepts used in the film trilogy, but uses Gaiman own back story rather than a story set in the Matrix universe. In any case, history is more reminiscent of the stories of Philip K. Dick in the mood and atmosphere, including Dick short story entitled "The adjustment team.

In the story "Study in Emerald" is a wonderful pastiche of Sherlock Doyles' Lovecrafts Holmes and Cthulhu "Mythos. As always, the narrator of the story is Dr. Watson unconditional, but there's not much about Holmes story is traditional fare. Gaiman has taken both the sources, mixed them with expertise and made the result of his black humor. I imagine there are some people who have reflected on how well the great detective would go against the Myths, I must admit I never thought about what would happen if Holmes worked for the Myths of …

Another of the stories is based on another universe of the authors is the intriguing "The Problem of Susan. The Susan in question is the "Chronicles of Narnia" by CS Lewis. Readers of this series will remember that Susan was no longer considered a "friend Narnia because she is very fond of lipsticks and nylons and invitations to the parties "[Fragile Things, p244]. Essentially, when the other children were to heaven, she stayed behind. Gaiman gives his vision of Susan's life after this display of cosmic inequality, not a penchant for the pen labial opposed to a place in Heaven?

The prize for the most sinister of the story collection was given at the end of the story of 'Time'. As a story within a story, another tale of the strange – part childhood events Gaiman's imagination. Another commission history, this time was requested to be in the style of MR James, which the author succeeds admirably, but not limited to cloning writing style of James. Clearly the cooling, this is one of, if not My favorite story in the collection and is a valuable addition to the genre of ghost story.

The last story in the book, "The Monarch of the Glen "is a gift for fans of Gaiman, American Gods novel ', as it follows the adventures of the protagonist, Shadow. The story is set in Scotland and is a reinvention of a key sequence in the saga of Beowulf. As the shadow has already been identified with the elements of Norse mythology and Germanic in 'American Gods', history works in a simple, based on the old connection between Scotland and Scandinavia to the background color.

Forbidden History "brides of slaves in the house faceless secret desire Dread Night "is a hilarious gem, which, according to the author, notes has been lurking around a number of years. It is cleverly constructed with the switching action between the baroque, gothic story and the author of that story, as attempts to avoid the traps of stereotypes and clichés.

To reach any conclusion, then, this is a very solid collection of work. To be honest, I really have to be the mood for poetry and I really was not when I read this, so I just ignored them. They do, after all, it takes only a few pages and Gaiman suggests that it is considered a free bonus. Paraphrasing, the book would cost less to poems deleted so your being scammed. As I said, the stories that no ammunition UXO that is, Gaiman is vintage and not challenge any fan to enjoy this collection.
