The most effective way to study the Bible is the one that complements your personality and lifestyle. Have you ever tried to follow a plan of Bible reading assigned to a well-meaning friend and found himself discouraged?
It's good to have a systematic way of going through the Bible, otherwise you might find waste valuable time each day to decide what to study, but how you do depends on you. You may want to use a plan of Bible reading, study of a particular topic or go through a particular book of the Bible. Having decided on a system, are ready to begin studying.
One way is simply to read the Bible and record any thoughts or questions that come to you. One objective might be to get answers to your questions.
You also can do some research by reading the same passages of Scripture with 3 or 4 different versions of the Bible or the use of a concordance to search for keywords. Cross-references in study Bibles that can lead to other verses that have a similar theme. Enter the information you find so you can return to it later.
Meditation is another way to get the word to be more meaningful to you. Choose a passage of Scripture and meditate on her thinking about her and talking to yourself. Imagine what life would be like as if the Scripture verses were fully operational in their lives. See yourself having lots of money in your bank account (Philippians 4:19), walking in love (1 Corinthians 13), or of being cured of a disease (Psalm 103:3) Find the writings they have the answer to your need.
Unless you just want to prove something new, not diverted by well-intentioned people who want to do what they are doing through reading the Bible in a year, through a devotion particular, or attend a Bible study in the new church in the city. Do not make commitments you can not keep just because you do not want to say no. His time of Bible study will be much more effective if you enjoy it and it is significant to their lives.
